Our Community School (2010)

OCS is a publicly funded charter school in Chatsworth California serving children K-6, with a charter renewal to expand to the 8th grade. This last year OCS received $3million to renovate an unused LAUSD site. Previous to the move, teachers who have returned from Maternity Leave were accommodated by the principals’ vacating their office to accommodate the teacher. One of the principals also had her child brought to her to direct breastfeed in her office. At the new campus, space has been identified for teachers, a WLA employee policy was enacted. Most inportantly, this policy includes all mothers on campus and included it in their Parent Handbook, which states in part, “Our Community School encourages the mothers of our students to inquire with our main office on space available to her in the event that she needs to express milk.”
